Environmental Course Development and Enhancement Funds

The Environmental Policy and Culture Program (EPC) is offering substantial funding for the development of new humanities/social sciences courses on environmental topics as well as the enhancement of existing courses by centering environmental subject matter.

All proposals are welcome. EPC is especially interested in courses that involve innovative pedagogical approaches (including but not limited to field trips, guest speakers, project-based learning, relevant technology, or community engagement).

Awards

Awards are expected to range from $5,000 to $10,000, with more funding generally reserved for course development. Budgeted expenses can be deposited as a lump sum in discretionary accounts or else reimbursed on a per cost basis. All such funds—including course development awards—can be spent/reimbursed over several years and are not required to be spent purely on course preparation and planning. In addition to budgeted expenses, EPC will provide “compensatory funds” of $750 (for course enhancement) and $1,500 (for course development).

Applications

Course development proposals should include a course proposal (2-3 pages describing the course’s aims, methods, and subject matter, as well as an explanation of how the funds will benefit the course), and a detailed budget. Course enhancement proposals should include a draft syllabus (for the new version of the course), a description of how the funds will be used to improve or otherwise rethink the course, and a detailed budget.

EPC expects that new and enhanced courses will be taught within two years of funds being awarded.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications and questions should be sent to Keith Woodhouse and Tiffany Williams-Cobleigh.

Course Development and enhancement funds are provided by a generous gift from Rich Tinberg (MBA ’75 and parent) and Elaine Tinberg (parent).
